Subject:Re: [Lnc-business] Seeking Co-Sponsors: Motion to set the
September Meeting Location
Everyone, I very much appreciate the discussion. That is why I
introduced
the topic: I wanted to find out what, if any objections there are
and to be
able to talk about them. Since we had received Starchild's email,
nobody
else felt the need to discuss the option - I did. We need more
activity
like this. I am convinced now that I do not want to sponsor this
motion and
would vote not in favor on a ballot due to the following reasons:
1) Each member of this board must feel safe when attending LNC
functions,
within reason. A public place will always be safer than a person's
home for
a meeting based on this alone. I am fine with roughing it in a 20
man tent,
but that doesn't mean that anyone else would be interested in an
idea like
that due to a variety of safety issues. It is unfair to ask anyone
to do
anything they feel as unsafe.
2) There are several health concerns. Again, we must have a meeting
place
and location that can accomodate all health issues within reason. A
public
place tends to be better maintained and furnished for a general
population
as opposed to someone's home in terms of health. It is unfair to ask
someone to put their health at risk.
I am very appreciative of Starchild for bringing this idea to mind
and
conitnue to welcome input from all members. Input does not always
equate to
action and must be evaluated. I believe we have well-evaluated this
idea.
If someone else wishes to be the primary on the motion, I would
encourage
them to do so, but I withdraw this motion and thank everyone for the
discussion. I do think it imperative that we find the cheapest
location
possible, not the most convenient - we owe that to our membership
even if
it means we have to drive 20 minutes more than we would hope.
As a final note, many of the points of discussion in this email
thread were
critical of Starchild from the start. He did not introduce the
motion, I
did. Even if he did, it is important that we remember to not make
things
personal. Not everyone was on previous LNCs and people, like me who
introduced the motion, were unaware of the stress that surrounded
such
discussions in the past. This is the nature of boards where new
members
come on regularly - we must always be patient and explain our points
of
view without belittling or discouraging people from sharing new or
different ideas. Just because you have seen, discussed, and made a
decision
about it before does not mean everyone has and we must all grow
together
now based on relationships with each other, not based on discussions
of the
past from former members. Just please remember this and keep an open
and
patient mind.

Everyone, I very much appreciate the discussion. That is why I
introduced the topic: I wanted to find out what, if any
objections
there are and to be able to talk about them. Since we had
received
Starchild's email, nobody else felt the need to discuss the
option - I
did. We need more activity like this. I am convinced now that I
do not
want to sponsor this motion and would vote not in favor on a
ballot due
to the following reasons:
1) Each member of this board must feel safe when attending LNC
functions, within reason. A public place will always be safer
than a
person's home for a meeting based on this alone. I am fine with
roughing it in a 20 man tent, but that doesn't mean that anyone
else
would be interested in an idea like that due to a variety of
safety
issues. It is unfair to ask anyone to do anything they feel as
unsafe.
2) There are several health concerns. Again, we must have a
meeting
place and location that can accomodate all health issues within
reason.
A public place tends to be better maintained and furnished for a
general population as opposed to someone's home in terms of
health. It
is unfair to ask someone to put their health at risk.
I am very appreciative of Starchild for bringing this idea to
mind and
conitnue to welcome input from all members. Input does not always
equate to action and must be evaluated. I believe we have
well-evaluated this idea. If someone else wishes to be the
primary on
the motion, I would encourage them to do so, but I withdraw this
motion
and thank everyone for the discussion. I do think it imperative
that we
find the cheapest location possible, not the most convenient - we
owe
that to our membership even if it means we have to drive 20
minutes
more than we would hope.
As a final note, many of the points of discussion in this email
thread
were critical of Starchild from the start. He did not introduce
the
motion, I did. Even if he did, it is important that we remember
to not
make things personal. Not everyone was on previous LNCs and
people,
like me who introduced the motion, were unaware of the stress
that
surrounded such discussions in the past. This is the nature of
boards
where new members come on regularly - we must always be patient
and
explain our points of view without belittling or discouraging
people
from sharing new or different ideas. Just because you have seen,
discussed, and made a decision about it before does not mean
everyone
has and we must all grow together now based on relationships with
each
other, not based on discussions of the past from former members.
Just
please remember this and keep an open and patient mind.

Elizabeth,
and it
bothered me. I think Starchild - on this issue - does this
consistently and that is partly why I went from zero to a
hundred
so
quickly.
HOWEVER, I personally want to apologize to Starchild. It is
my
job to
listen to member concerns, even if it is for many times
over. I
lost
my patience, and I regret that. Please forgive me
Starchild.
