Fair point Whitney and very valid. Thank you for correcting my comment.
There are indeed times when you may agree in spirit but not wording and
I get that. I am all for working together to come up with a better
version down the road if this fails.

I disagree...there are times when I agree with the spirit of a
resolution, but not the specific language. There are also times
     when I
agree with some language of the motion, but not all, and question
     the
spirit of it. And there are times when I agree with the specific
language, but not the spirit in which it was presented. There are
     many
        in-betweens.
Each of us has our own reason for voting as we see fit, and each
     of us
is responsible for explaining ourselves (or not).
No one else gets to decide why we vote the way we vote, or what
     our
intentions were in doing so. I reject the the notion that we are
against something if we aren't for it (and vice versa).
As a Libertarian, I struggle daily with folks who think that if I
     don't
vote their way, then my vote is wasted. Our candidates face this
     every
election cycle...if you vote for C, you might as well be voting
     for B
instead of A. We have a bond election underway right now about
     flood
control...the message out there is that if you vote against the
     bond,
you must want people to continue losing life and limb to flood
     waters.
Really? This kind of thinking is naive, simple-minded, and
     reckless.

all. If someone believes in property rights and supports the
resolution, I'm not sure why they would vote against it.
     Simple
          as
that. Waste of time or not, it is a resolution before us and
     one
          that
either you support or do not. If you think it is a waste of
     time,
discourage similar resolutions in the future. This is
     balloted,
however, and must be voted on. You (collective sense) either
          agree with
it or you do not. There is no in between.
