[Lnc-business] Email Ballot 2018-22: PROPERTY RIGHTS RESOLUTION

Richard says, "You (collective sense) either agree with
it or you do not. There is no in between."

I disagree...there are times when I agree with the spirit of a resolution,
but not the specific language. There are also times when I agree with some
language of the motion, but not all, and question the spirit of it. And
there are times when I agree with the specific language, but not the spirit
in which it was presented. There are many in-betweens.

Each of us has our own reason for voting as we see fit, and each of us is
responsible for explaining ourselves (or not).

No one else gets to decide why we vote the way we vote, or what our
intentions were in doing so. I reject the the notion that we are against
something if we aren't for it (and vice versa).

As a Libertarian, I struggle daily with folks who think that if I don't
vote their way, then my vote is wasted. Our candidates face this every
election cycle...if you vote for C, you might as well be voting for B
instead of A. We have a bond election underway right now about flood
control...the message out there is that if you vote against the bond, you
must want people to continue losing life and limb to flood waters. Really?
This kind of thinking is naive, simple-minded, and reckless.

Whitney

-------------- next part --------------
Richard says, "You (collective sense) either agree with
it or you do not. There is no in between."
I disagree...there are times when I agree with the spirit of a
resolution, but not the specific language. There are also times when I
agree with some language of the motion, but not all, and question the
spirit of it. And there are times when I agree with the specific
language, but not the spirit in which it was presented. There are many
   in-betweens.
Each of us has our own reason for voting as we see fit, and each of us
is responsible for explaining ourselves (or not).
No one else gets to decide why we vote the way we vote, or what our
intentions were in doing so. I reject the the notion that we are
against something if we aren't for it (and vice versa).
As a Libertarian, I struggle daily with folks who think that if I don't
vote their way, then my vote is wasted. Our candidates face this every
election cycle...if you vote for C, you might as well be voting for B
instead of A. We have a bond election underway right now about flood
control...the message out there is that if you vote against the bond,
you must want people to continue losing life and limb to flood waters.
Really? This kind of thinking is naive, simple-minded, and reckless.

A resolution may sound like a straightforward declaration
   of
             principle,
but they are always issued for strategic reasons. The fact

Give the reasons for your preferred strategy. Argue
        passionately

it. But stop accusing your allies of being your enemies.
