Mr. Phillips,
I don't mean to offend or to displace anyone from the committee. I would favor that a ruling on this matter not be enforced retroactively or unfairly. This question is not meant as an attack, and I am not particularly frustrated. My reading and understanding of the Bylaws does not come complete with the precedents set in the past, and in fact I tend to favor codification rather than carrying around precedents.
I completely agree with your first point, Mr. Phillips, though I disagree on the second. On the third point, I appreciate your support of my previous appeals, but the Bylaws states the body which appointed the member is free to reappoint, making it a mere formality, but one that is codified no less.
So to your fourth point, I am not suggesting that we seek replacements, and I hope that I have not offended you with my question, but the question remains. I believe we should operate under the Bylaws as written or propose to amend them as soon as we are able.
Thank you for all you do for the Liberty of Others.
Very Respectfully,
Jeff Lyons

If that is the case I would consider a few thoughts.
1. That to be held to that standard should require being informed that it now applied to them despite it never having applied before. Particularly after we were still debating the meaning of that change to the manual in the December meeting.
2. If that is indeed the standard alternates will be held to, it will become much harder to recruit alternates, and we should probably revisit that change and revise the language in it again, since the SPIRIT of it was to make it easier for alternates to contribute, not harder.
3. I understand Mr Lyons has some frustrations, frustrations that I very much sympathize with him on and would be willing to help get addressed (indeed on one of those frustrations I backed him despite that it would cause a motion I was involved in to fail). HOWEVER, expressing those frustrations in such a confrontational manner targeting two individuals who had no part in them is probably not the best way to express said frustrations. I would still welcome a discussion of his complaints to see if they can be addressed rather than see 2 hard working activists needlessly punished for situations not of their own making.
4. If we are going to hold this ridiculous standard please let me know as soon as possible so the recruiting of replacements can begin. INCLUDING one for myself, because if that will be the case this is clearly not the organization I thought I was volunteering to serve with.

Mr Phillips,
I think the point being raised by Mr Lyons is that while we historically have not held Alternates to this obligation, this LNC also passed a policy manual amendment that declared Alternares to be full members of the LNC, where as previously that status was undefined. Given the changes we made to that provision, does this one regarding absence from meetings also now apply to Alternates?

Does this apply to alternates? We were under the impression that it did not as long as I attended. Mr Andersen and I have been in regular contact and thought it was not mandatory for alternates
