I agree with Mr. Goldstein that Ms. Ryan's recollection is inaccurate. I
assure you that the relevant part of the conversation went like this:

----------------------------
Ms. Ryan: The last order of business is something I didn’t want to bring
up, but I’ve been painted into a corner by the chair. He has requested
that we send him our recommendation for the seat that’s on the COC. If you
feel the seat is not available, I urge you to abstain from the vote. So,
any…?

COC member: Why don’t we take a consensus here of who thinks that the seat
is not open?
Ms. Ryan: It doesn’t matter. I have to do this. This is my order from
the chair.
[...]
Me: The chair can’t give you orders like that. This is under…
Ms. Ryan: I work at the pleasure of the chair.
[...discussion of whether there is a vacancy, the ongoing LNC email
ballots, and our desire to wait for email ballot results...]
Me: So to deal with the agenda item, I’ll move to postpone it to next week
so we can see how the email ballots play out.
(second)
Ms. Ryan: I’m not going to do that. I’ve been ordered. I will pass on…
Me: Nick can’t order me not to postpone.
