[Lnc-business] archive of historical convention data

I've started working on a project that I hope will be useful to this LNC
and future LNCs for convention planning purposes.

I'm taking the information I have available from past national conventions
and trying to assemble it into a more usable archive. Perhaps when I'm
finished we can drop this on the staff wiki that was set up last year for
easy reference by convention planners and site scouters as needed.

The data that I have is spread across a lot of documents with wildly
varying formats, so someone unfamiliar with the pile of documents would
have to do a lot of digging around to find comparable figures across
different years. One of the key elements of this project is that I'm
creating a spreadsheet with a column for each year that collects key data
points into more easily-referenced locations. I want to include for each
year notes about how certain key elements were handled, delegate
attendance, hotel room night usage and booking patterns, profit/loss data,
package pricing, package sales breakdowns, etc. I want to include copies
of the executed contracts, invoices from the hotels and various other
vendors, the spreadsheet template I built to help us compare future bids
from potential sites (and somewhere in the past I wrote a guide document to
help LNC members understand that spreadsheet), the convention planning
to-do list that I created for 2012, etc.

I have some information in my possession already from my past work with the
conventions, but I don't have everything I'd like to put into this
archive. Robert Kraus likely can provide me with some additional info, and
I'll make inquiries with him as needed. After I assemble what I can, maybe
past convention planners can help us fill in blanks or add to it.

My effort should be viewed as a starting point to build institutional
knowledge on a subject that has a lot of financial risk for the party.
Future convention planners shouldn't have to reinvent all the wheels each
year. They'll still have to do a lot of work, but maybe I can give them a
jump start on the process.
