[Lnc-business] Chair's Proposed Agenda - LNC Meeting December 10-11, 2016

I have no idea what else to say, I clearly am not communicating clearly. A
"gatekeeper" is not the same thing as a messaging strategy, saying yes or
no to communications based on interpretations of texts is not advance
guidance (and doesn't become advance guidance if you add in an additional
subjective standard when that standard is not defined), and a closed
committee is not the same thing as a decision by this body, known to the
membership, to direct the way we are represented.

I disagree entirely about the urgent-gram last term, as an aside. The
requirement regarding casting the party in a negative light has a much
higher standard to me; in fact, nothing about an urgent-gram seems like it
would fit a straightforward definition of casting the party in a negative
light. Organizations send them all the time, and they happen to work. I
simply see it as something else the LNC clearly wanted (at that time, I
don't know what the current LNC thinks on the matter) but did not
articulate ahead of time. Staff should, additionally, be able to operate
on the LNC's instructions and make decisions within them, but that's
another matter not raised by this motion.

I agree that we should let the LNC do it. However, I believe that larger
bodies such as the LNC are more effective at adopting, rejecting, or
amending concrete proposals than drawing up strategies. If this fails, I
may in the future seek to have the LNC do it directly.

I also disagree, somewhat, on the Rand Paul meme, but the details are not
the point. I believe there was no sense in which it violated anything or
'cast the party in a negative light' and so should have been stopped by the
APRC. If you disagree, so be it. I stand by my claim that there is a
world of difference between gatekeeping and strategizing, and that
gatekeeping cannot substitute for strategizing.

I will debate more with you next weekend.
